Be Active Kids is an innovative, interactive physical activity, nutrition, and food safety curriculum for North Carolina preschoolers ages four and five. The goal of the program is to give young children the tools they need to develop positive physical activity and nutrition habits for a lifetime of good health. Be Active Kids uses colorful characters, interactive hands-on lessons and bright visuals to teach children that physical activity, healthy eating, and food safety can be fun!

Professionals in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and food safety designed the Be Active Kids program and an advisory committee guided the curriculum development and evaluation process. Be Active Kids is endorsed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, North Carolina Smart Start, and the North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children. Be Active Kids is a signature program of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation in partnership with Be Active North Carolina. The food safety section of the program is supported by Food Lion.

Be Active Kids is designed to be used in any type of classroom setting for four and five year olds. The curriculum is used in family child care homes, child care centers, public school classrooms, and after school programs. Since the program was piloted in 1999, over 7,000 curriculum kits have been distributed statewide and the program has won numerous national awards.
